The new family of 123D Design Apps enables 3D Modeling via iPad, Mac, PC or Web Browser
Today we introduced Autodesk 123D Design, a free* 3D modeling tool that allows users to create a digital model and then 3D print or fabricate their idea whether on the iPad, Mac, PC or via their web browser. Autodesk 123D Design uses natural interactions for creation and editing, allowing makers to easily design things without learning complex CAD concepts.

Saw the "wire" interview with Carl Bass- inspirational my brains already started ticking over with ideas any mac updates?

Its been 10 months are we on Mac yet?. -

Designers prefer Mac products. If you want to create products designers will use, you need to mac them compatible with OS X. Do you plan on creating a Mac version soon? at all?

Just throwing out some more support for a mac version. I'll download the mac version the day it comes out :)

I use MacOS too, but actually Catch shouldn't exist at all.
Why not just upload the photos to a website and then get the result in a format which 123D or Maya can open?
See, there wouldn't be any need for a Catch application this way. -

@ Juan Carlos P.
There are a lot more features in the windows version than the online version.-
I know, I use the windows version, but really the only useful thing I use it for is uploading the photos (a simple browser can do that task)
And then exporting the project once completed, to Maya.
So I'm not using any 3D capability of Catch, because basically there are far better options for that as are Maya and 3D Studio.
I just say that there could be an alternative to Catch, which would be just uploading the photos and getting a .FBX back, and just that. And people that still want to use Catch, they can, and of course have to resort to the windows version of it. -

Seriously, what is the hard time-line to having Catch in a OSX version?!
If there is no intent to support OSX - then just let us know and we'll move on to something else... that can be used locally with all the bells and whistles in tact.
Sorry for the directness but this has been on the back burner for over a year now. -

New to the forum, I am waiting also for the mac version of 123D Catch! Hope for me less waiting time!

Inventor Fusion Technology Preview (for MacOSX) looks a lot like 123D, just less capable ... for those who care to give it a try:

Still would love to see 123D for Mac OSX ... -

Would LOVE to see this in OSX, as a teacher i want to show to my pupils...... PLEASE SORT SOON>>>> THANK YOU....

The Autodesk silence on this issue is pretty revealing of its priorities.

It's disappointing to see how long this thread has gone on...
It would seem the only realistic option for anyone who prefers not to use Windows is to look elsewhere, which is a real shame. As an Autocad user, I'd much prefer to stick with a familiar suite of projects than waste time venturing into new territory. -

Definitely a major FAIL! The guys at ADSK really need to pay more attention to what the maker community is asking for, especially since this is a community they are relying on to make this software relevant. Its no secret that millions of creatives (and a good number of them professionals) prefer the OSX platform over Windows. I don't see this ever getting the FULL support of the maker community unless there is a version for Mac!

I definitely agree... The full pipeline from images to model editing should be covered.

They need to focus on fixing the basic stability issues first before focusing on more porting improvements.
While having things on more platforms isn't bad, if they spread themselves too thin they might have trouble with working out stability of the core part of the system which should be worked out first.
So far logins appears to be a big issue, online mesh loading into sculpt online, and processing captures. -

I run boot camp to run 123D catch at the moment - but now that I have seen a browser version I thought that this solved the reboot workaround that I have to endure (windows loves its updates....) - is it very very different?

Seriously!?
Where's the download available
from? I still only see the PC version -

the download is available from the Mac App Store.

That's NOT 123D CATCH. It's 123D Design.

Wow that's really dire. Not only have you completely ignored all Mac user interface conventions, the ability to export .stl files is gone which makes this just an advert for your own 3D print bureau. No thanks, I've got a 3D printer I built myself on my desk and if I want something that can't do I'll go to shapeways who've built up a reputation both for quality and working with the maker community.
Too little too late. Back to OpenSCAD it is then. -

I'm sorry but I found 123D to be very disappointing.
I've been playing with Inventor Fusion (can also be found in the Appstore) and even though it has it's limitations, which appears much better than 123D and supports my need for STL files.
I only have 2 comments when it comes to Inventor Fusion;
1) The object I create will not be positioned as I have drawn it in an STL file (or maybe it's just me not knowing what I'm doing). Say you have a flat disk, like a coin, laying flat, then the STL will have the coin standing up (which is a problem when I want to print this in 3D).
2) You can't add 3D text to your objects. -
-
1. you can use move face to move component to reorient the components/bodies. Most commercial and freeware 3d print tools have ways to rotate the stl and place in the print envelope. I hope i am understanding your questions.
2. This is a limitation today. You can use some freeware tools to create outlines from rtf fonts and save to DWG. Then open these in Fusion and copy/paste that 2d sketch geometry to the face you want to emboss. Not the easiest workaround but it does work.
you may get better answers posting to the fusion facebook page or the discussion group page.
